A New Giving Initiative from Lunar Telephone Company

Today is International Day of Charity - established by the United Nations in 2012.

At Lunar Telephone Company, we’ve always believed in the power of ideas - bright ones, weird ones, the kind that light up rooms and imaginations. But ideas alone don’t change the world. People do.

So, starting this month and continuing as an experiment for the next 12 months, we’re launching a simple initiative: when we post about a meaningful cause, milestone, or cultural moment on social media, we’ll make a small but intentional donation to a nonprofit organization aligned with that message.

It won’t be massive. We’re a small company, after all. But it will be consistent. And we hope it adds up - not just in dollars, but in awareness, in advocacy, and in the example it sets.

We’re doing this for a few reasons:

  • Because inclusivity, tolerance, education, and big thinking aren’t just values we design for - they’re values we live by.

  • Because it’s easy to post a message and harder to back it up. We want to go beyond virtue signaling.

  • And because if a few people reading our posts are inspired to donate, volunteer, or simply reconsider something they thought they knew - then we’ve done more than just hit “share.”

We’ll spotlight most of the organizations we support along the way, and we’ll always welcome recommendations. This isn’t a PR strategy or a performance. It’s a long-distance transmission from a company that believes in empathy, equity, and effort.

We’re calling it Signal Boost.

For this event, we’ve chosen to make a small donation to our local NPR station - LAist. LAist / KPCC provides Southern California with non-stop coverage of local and national new. Our community is better because of their efforts. Please consider joining us by supporting them, your local NPR station, or another organization that reflects your values.

Stay tuned. And stay kind.
